My personal experience in Brooklyn NY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hospital Infections may be declining with some infections while a large increase is occuring<br \/>\nwith others.\u00a0 Just a few months back I was having a conversation with a couple of<br \/>\ncolleagues.\u00a0 We were discussing a new infection that is rapidly spreading, called<br \/>\nClostridium difficile aka C-diff.\u00a0 It is passed through wounds, intravenous lines, and other<br \/>\nmeans.\u00a0 If you are taking antibiots and you come in contact with it you may be more<br \/>\nsuseptable since the antibiots kill good and bad bacteria at the same time.\u00a0 Thanks to<br \/>\ncolleages, Caryn Isaacs, Patient Advocate, and Ann Hanna, I was made aware of this.<br \/>\nAfter ending up in the hospital myself this weekend I was horrified to find out that the women<br \/>\nsharing the room with me had C-diff.\u00a0 I immediately asked for a discharge since I could<br \/>\ncontinue the medications at home.\u00a0 They were allowing this patient to walk the<br \/>\nhalls.\u00a0 C-diff is spread by touching things, thus leaving bacteria that others can pick<br \/>\nup.\u00a0 When I quickly left my room to let them know I wanted to be discharged, I had turned<br \/>\nto notice a sign outside my shared room that read, caution etc.\u00a0 point being something in<br \/>\nmy room was contagious and I was told I was not.\u00a0 Once you get what you need in the<br \/>\nhospital get out as fast as you can.\u00a0 I actually had nurses and assistants that were not<br \/>\nchanging their gloves between patients, and who were not sanitizing their hands between glove<br \/>\nchanges.\u00a0 It was a breeding ground for germs.\u00a0 OK some are saying maybe<br \/>\nI&#8217;m getting paranoid, however if you don&#8217;t control your own destiny to some degree you<br \/>\nmay loose control.\u00a0 I also do not think patients should wait in a doctors office to be<br \/>\nseen.\u00a0 I bring my own pen for sign in and let them know my tel # so they can let me know<br \/>\nwhen to come in from my car, parked in the area.\u00a0 I also carry hand sanitizer with<br \/>\nme.\u00a0 Think about how many people go to the doctor because they are sick.\u00a0 I<br \/>\ncertainly do not need anything I do not already have.\u00a0 Touch nothing.\u00a0 When using<br \/>\nthe rest room remember to turn the water on and off with paper towels.\u00a0 Use a paper<br \/>\ntowel to open the door, if hand use is at all necessary.\u00a0 This is seriously deadly<br \/>\nstuff.\u00a0 I hope this will keep you out of germs way.\u00a0 I&#8217;m still trying to get the<br \/>\nreal low down on whether people with C-diff can be admitted to nursing homes and or assisted<br \/>\nliving vacilities.\u00a0 It seems to me they would need a seperate building or everyone will end<br \/>\nup infected.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hospitals and infections are not alone.
